Tiny Plays for Ireland coming soon @fishamble @projectarts

In September last year a call went out in The Irish Times looking ‘for tiny plays that explore contemporary life in Ireland’ in a bid to broaden the range of current voices in Irish theatre. The maximum word count was 600 words and each selected writer would be paid a fee of €250. Irish theatre production company Fishamble would then work with each writer on the development of the commissioned play before showcasing them to the public in March 2012 at Project Arts Centre, in Dublin .

So the results are in and Fishamble said they received over 1,700 tiny plays from all across Ireland. The shows are currently in production and feature some of Ireland’s best known writers and playwrights including Joseph O’Connor, Maeve Binchy, Colum McCann, Michael West and Ardal O’Hanlon and selected newcomers.

The shows will run through the second half of March in the Project Arts Centre and will be accompanied by a programme of debates and discussions, based on the themes and issues explored.

This is a really great initiative I think and I for one will certainly be heading along to check them out. For more information anf if you’re interested check out the trailer below.I’ll come back to this and let you all know what I thought and would love to hear from you too.
